College Football, especially the Pac 10 is really weird this time of year. Ya, weird is the best word. Teams look awful one weak, but great the next. Cal was dominated in week one, but came out strong in week 2. Tennessee was overpowering against the Bears, but struggled against Air Force. So here is the second edition of the Pac 10 ramblings.
10. The SEC is owning the Pac 10. While Arizona isn't a powerhouse, losing 45-3 to LSU hurts.
9. UCLA made adjustments in their running game and it resulted in 300 yards on the ground against lowly Rice. However, they regressed in every other aspect, the passing game, defense, and special teams.
8. Why didn't Stanford hire Norm Chow. They took Walt Harris? Losing to San Jose State, who is almost as bad as Manny's Temple Owls isn't good. Trent Edwards will be a sleeper in the upcoming draft.
7. Its clear that Mike Riley is on his way out. Losing to Boise State is bad enough, but when they have Oregon natives on their roster putting up big numbers against you, then I think your time is narrowing down.
6. When I saw Washington winning at Oklahoma, I wondered whether the Huskies were playing out of this world or that OU was struggling. I think that question was answered during the 2nd half. (cough, cough Adrian Peterson)
5.The Cal QB debate was possibly silenced Saturday as Nate Longshore threw 4 touchdown passes. Maybe Cal isn't too bad after all.
4. Gotta throw in some USC stuff even if they didn't play. Stafon Johnson had a big week at practice. Coach Pete Carroll said he was the most improved. Taylor Mays looks to be the starter for the injured Saftey Josh Pinkard.
3. Washington State might be one of the better teams in the Pac 10 this year. I think they've learned a lot from the game against Auburn. That loss will help them in the long run. Remember you get better playing against top 10 teams; not 1-AA teams (um Colorado).
2. Oregon edged by Fresno State, but remember its a night game in a tough environement, against a Pat Hill team (a.k.a. a giant killer) I think its agood win though.
1. Next week will be real fun. Pac 10 versus the Big XII. Oklahoma welcome to Pac 10 football. The Sooners head to Eugene to face the Ducks. Imagine how loud Autzen will be. I'll at the USC-Nebraska game at the Coliseum, cheering for the Trojans.
