Born on November 11, 1902 in Kearny, New Jersey, Ownie Carroll (Owen Thomas Carroll) played for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 9 year career. Carroll broke into the bigs on June 20, 1925 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 3.98 ERA in 172 innings pitched in 1927, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ownie Carroll's best season was 1928, when he posted a 3.27 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 51 batters.
