- The first modern World Series began with the NL Champion Pittsburgh Pirates visiting the AL Champion Boston Pilgrims at the Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds in front of 16,242 fans. The Pirates would win the opener 7-3 beating Cy Young. However, Boston would go on to win the best-of-nine series, 5 games to 3.
