NY Jets RB Thomas Jones injured in practice

by GridironGoddess

Word tonight from the New York Jets is that RB Thomas Jones, recently dealt to the Jets from the Bears, limped off the practice field today after injuring his lower right leg. No immediate word was available on the exact nature or severity of his injury. Injury was not caused by collision or interaction with another player. Instead, it is said that during drills he went to plant his right foot and and fell. A trainer came to look at him immediately and he was removed from the field for treatment.

Many good thoughts for this being a non-sidelining injury go out to Thomas Jones from the Gridiron Goddess tonight.

Maybe the Bears sabotaged Jones' ankle so they wouldn't look so ridiculous for trading him.

Hopefully, the injury isn't too severe. No matter the player or the team (unless they play for the Raiders), I dislike seeing players getting hurt.

So do I. It just makes it...uh...I don't want to say unfair, but it doesn't show that the team on top could do as good with those injured players on other teams.

Well, at least that excuse was better than Ted Gin Jr.'s. Ted: I was celebrating after I scored a touchdown and that's how I got injured...

Somehow his draft stock went up with the Dolphins. Might have been because of Nick Saban, nobody knows.

Maybe they need more entertainment over there in Miami. You're right... nobody knows.

I have a feeling T Jones's injury may be a high ankle sprain...

Why doesn't anyone ever get low ankle sprains? It's always high ankle sprains. I don't get it.

why not just call it an ankle sprain? does the adjective high or low really mean anything to anyone?

I'm guessing they'd be able to figure it out by looking at it. Where is it swollen, high or low? Well, daggummit, it's a high ankle sprain.

not sure why the whole high/low thing is. In jr. high and high school I was an athlete and cheerleader and got ankle sprains a lot. Now, when I am training to run a 5-10-13K race, the sprains are higher up and involve more of the calf... I think the medical difference is high sprains take longer to heal.

That makes sense. If they took the same amount of time to heal as regular (or "low") ankle sprains, there'd be no need to differentiate between them. Good answer.

The official explanation of the difference of a high and low ankle sprain is as follows:

The high ankle sprain damages the ligaments that connect the lower leg bones (tibia and fibula) to each other. The "low ankle sprain" damages the ligaments just below the ankle near the talus. The talus is a smaller bone below the tibia and fibula which supports the bones of the foot.

With a high ankle sprain, depending on how bad it is, time frame could be six weeks until he is back to full strength, so Jets fans, I would be hoping for the low variety.
