Morgan and Jenkins are back on Defense.

I know that it is only the first day of practice, but it's good to see both of them on the field. Dan Morgan has been injured so much since becoming a Panther in 2001, that the local sports talk station uses the word, Morganed, to describe any athlete who is injured. I find it a little cruel to make fun of someone who is usually injured but that demonstrates how some feel here in Carolina. The Panthers took a lot of heat when they decided to resign Morgan two years ago and let Will Witherspoon (Dan's best friend) leave. The Charlotte Observe has more on Dan Morgan in this article.

Kris Jenkins has been rumored since before the NFL draft that he would not be on the sideline when the Panthers started camp. First, we had a lot of trade rumors and the Panthers did not hide that they were trying to trade him before the draft. The Panthers did not find anyone who took him. Second, Jenkins did not show up for any of the practice sessions, pre-camp events, and constant rumors that his weight was approaching 400lbs. The Charlotte Observer had a Q & A with Jenkins and it appears that "most" everything is OK now in this article.

One more Panther note, Steve Smith wants to break Jerry Rice's receiving mark this year. The record is 1,848 yards set in 1995 by Jerry Rice with the SF 49ers. Steve Smith's best year was 2005 when he had 1,563 yards. I do believe that if the offensive line is healthy and Jake or David Carr steps up, that it would be possible.

I dunno, Jason Beason looks like he may become a good replacement for Dan. I worry about Morgan's long term health.

I will always pull for Steve Smith, but unless the QB situation settles down it might be pulling away for this year, but I think #16 is his best chance of making a run for that record.

It's nice to see another Carolina Panthers fan...
