Morgan Murphy (Morgan Edward Murphy) was born on February 14, 1867 in East Providence, Rhode Island. He made his Major League debut on April 22, 1890 for the Boston Reds. In 1890, his rookie year, he hit .228 with 2 home runs and 32 RBI. Murphy played for the Boston Reds, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Perfectos, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Athletics over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Morgan Murphy's best season was 1891, when he knocked in 54 runs.
