Monday Night Football is the weekly football game in primetime on Monday nights. It was brodcast on ABC for 36 years until it moved to ESPN for the 2006 season.

It is annually one of the top rated programs on television, though ratings began to slip in recent years for ABC. The network began losing money, though ESPN thinks they can revive the franchise. They shelled out over a $1 billion per year for the rights to the games.

[edit] Announcers

Part of what has made MNF so popular is its announcers. The announcing teams over the years have ranged from the classic to comical. Howard Cosell, the legendary play-by-play man, was best known for his work on MNF. The Cosell-Gifford-Meredith team is considered by many as the best announcing trio ever. In 1985 the show debuted a unintentionally funny team with an aging Frank Gifford, O.J. Simpson, and Joe Namath.

[edit] Entertainment

  • MNF's theme song, Are You Ready for Some Football?, has been used for quite a while. Composed by Hank Williams, the song changes from week to week based on the teams involved.

Is this a TALK SHOW with football as a it's sidebar?!! I can't even see half the game because announcers are on field with GAME is small screen. Really!!! This doesn't even resemble foorball as I like it. I'm trying to learn players and plays! That's a joke!! We women need the game if we are to learn. Is this on radio somewhere??
