Mike Quinn (Michael Patrick Quinn) was born on April 15, 1974 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After going to high school at Robert E. Lee (Houston, TX), Quinn attended Stephen F. Austin State University. Quinn made his professional debut in the NFL in 1997 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played for the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers over the course of his 2 year career.
Most people believe that 1997 was Mike Quinn's best year.
Acquired
The Bombers signed Quinn as a free agent on March 22, 2006.
Quinn spent one week on the practice roster of the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes but didn’t see any game action.
Quinn attended training camp with the NFL’s Denver Broncos. He saw pre-season action with the Broncos including the 2004 Hall of Fame Game versus the Washington Redskins. He marched the Broncos on a six-minute, 13-play drive that culminated in a two-yard TD pass to draw Denver to within two points. He then rifled a two-point convert that tied the score at 17-17. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 of the regular season and spent eight weeks on their practice roster.
Quinn began the year with the Houston Texans, but was waived prior to the final training camp cutdown. He was later re-signed by the Texans. He spent two weeks on the Texans' practice roster before being signed to the active roster for the final four games of the season.
Quinn was designated the Houston Texans’ third-string quarterback and was inactive for all 16 regular season games. He completed 18 of 31 passes for 208 yards and a 78.4 passer rating in the pre-season.
Quinn had a solid pre-season as a member of the Miami Dolphins. He completed 21-of-38 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown in exhibition action. He missed the regular season due to a shoulder injury suffered during the team's final pre-season game.
Quinn signed with the Miami Dolphins and completed the pre-season with a 92.4 passer rating, completing 27 of 48 passes for 260 yards with three touchdowns and two come from behind wins vs Tampa Bay on Aug. 10 and Green Bay on Aug. 21. He was the Miami Dolphins’ third-string quarterback for 14 regular season games and two playoff contests.
Quinn was the Dallas Cowboys’ third-string quarterback for all 16 regular season contests plus one playoff game.
Quinn joined the Pittsburgh Steelers at the start of the NFL team’s training camp. He was later released by the Steelers and joined the Indianapolis Colts. He was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys after being waived by the Colts. Quinn appeared in three games with the Cowboys, completing one pass for 10 yards in a Monday night game versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Prior to the NFL season, Quinn played for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. He completed 133-of-264 passes for 1,997 yards, 13 TDs and just three interceptions with an 87.3 quarterback rating. That performance earned him league all-star honours. An ankle injury prevented him from playing in the World Bowl.
Quinn was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent and earned a roster spot after compiling a 147.3 passer rating during the pre-season. He appeared in one regular season game for the Steelers, completing one of two passes for 10 yards versus the Baltimore Ravens. He was Pittsburgh’s third-string quarterback for the remainder of the season.
College
Quinn, a four-year letterman at Stephen F. Austin, completed 176-of-272 career pass attempts for 2,641 yards, 23 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He earned All-Southland Conference honours his senior season, leading the Lumberjacks to a 7-4 mark and a No. 21 1-AA final ranking.
PERSONAL: Quinn graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a degree in accounting. He and his wife, Jennifer, make their off-season home in Houston, Texas. He earned all-state honours at Robert E. Lee High School.
