[edit] Biography
Mike Jenkins is a cornerback at the University of South Florida and one of the highest-rated CB prospects in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Out of high school in Bradenton, Florida, Jenkins was a SuperPrep All-American safety and was rated the 27th best high school player in Florida by the Orlando Sentinel. He also played running back as a senior, racking up 859 yards and 11 TDs.
In 2004, as a freshman at USF, Jenkins played in 10 games but was hampered by an ankle injury. He got off to a quick start, however, blocking a punt in his first ever college game. In 2005, Jenkins started all 12 games, at CB, and earned second-team All-Big East honors, and had two interceptions. During his first three seasons, he had three INTs and 92 tackles. He added 41 tackles and 3 INTs as a senior.
[edit] Statistics
Jenkins had six INTs and 133 tackles over a four year college career, excluding five games as a red-shirt in 2003.
[edit] Transactions
A good-sized DB with great athleticism and plus speed and solid cover skills, Jenkins projects to be a solid CB in the NFL. He is not great of run support and needs to be drilled in footwork and technique, which may have him put at Safety. Character issues may give others some pause.
