[edit] Biography

Born on May 8, 1937 in Las Villas, Cuba, Mike Cuellar (Miguel Angel (Santana) Cuellar) played for the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros, Baltimore Orioles and California Angels over the course of his 15 year career. Cuellar broke into the bigs on April 18, 1959 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 4.50 ERA in 72 innings pitched in 1964, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Mike Cuellar's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1969, when he posted a 2.38 ERA, won 23 games and struck out 182 batters. However, others believe that it was 1970, when he posted a 3.48 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 190 batters.
