Born on May 23, 1978 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mike Gonzalez (Michael Vela Gonzalez) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for his entire 4 year career. Gonzalez broke into the bigs on August 11, 2003 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.70 ERA in 50 innings pitched in 2005, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Mike Gonzalez's best season was 2006, when he posted a 2.17 ERA, notched 24 saves and struck out 64 batters.
