Michael Finley is the man

Well, the highest paid Dallas Maverick just won an NBA championship. The problem for Mavs fans, the DFW metroplex, and one Mark Cuban is that he doesn't really play for the Mavs. This, of course, is the one and only San Antonio Spur, Michael Finley. How could you not be happy for this guy? One of the biggest class acts in all of sports. It's all the more sweater that Mark Cuban and the Mavs are still paying him around $18 million for this year, after throwing him under the bus so they didn't have to pay a hefty NBA luxury tax, while the Spurs are paying him around $2 million and giving him the most memorable moment in his career, a NBA championship.

The Spurs arrived in SA-town this afternoon and Michael Finley spoke to the crowd. He told the cheering crowd that he was "just happy to be a part of this." "Last year I was crying and this year I was crying, too," the former Dallas Mavericks player said. Becoming an NBA champion felt "damn good," he said, adding that he had a message to those who questioned his move to San Antonio from Dallas: "To all those people who said, 'Why San Antonio?' I have to say, 'Why not San Antonio?'"

That's right Mavs fans. The face of your organization for the past decade just won an NBA championship with a rival team with everything that you strive to be, but you wouldn't know what winning a title feels like... I'm really, really, really sorry. Michael Finley is laughing all the way to the bank with your $18 million and a ring, son.

I'm still hoping the Mavs win a championship sometime soon. Not because I'm a Mavs fan, but because I just want to see the awkward moment when David Stern hands Mark Cuban the trophy. That'll be a CLASSIC youtube clip.

He's a good one actually. I would love to see him hand the trophy to Cuban though

I would like to see that too. But until the Mavs get some defense {Ron Artest} and leadership and a true identity, Cubam will be out of luck. The Mavs implosion against the Miami Heat and the GS Warriors the past two years show that they just can't handle adversity. Once they do these things, it'll be a sad day for David Stern.

Finley was my favorite Mav when he was in Dallas, but he's not the player he was when he signed that contract. I wouldn't say the Mavs 'threw him under the bus', they made a business decision that many other teams did, as well, and it made their team better.

Just because a playing is getting older doesnt mean that you have to kick him out... no matter what they would still pay him the same amount of money, they just wouldn't have been able to get worthless devian george and buckner... if someone is the face of your org than you show class and let him retire with your team. That's like the spurs making D rob leave, or Duncan in 5 years... not going to happen, because peter holt, r.c. bufford, and pop are class-acts... mark cuban though... don't think so... when I think about it I still can't believe he did that to Fin-dog, one of the nicest guys in the league... lord knows it wasn't AJ's decision, i guess... well Ill stop now

I'm thrilled for Michael Finley. I wrote an article last year when he lost to his former team about how he couldn't seem to catch a break. Now he has beaten both Nowitzki and Nash to an NBA title. Very happy for him.
