1. How did you learn about ArmchairGM?
DNL’s article on the new economics of baseball was linked on TotalFark.com. Brilliant work, and still the best thing ever posted on the site.
2. If you were to meet Isiah Thomas outside Madison Square Garden, what would you say/do to the Knicks coach?
Wow. How about, “congrats for turning a whole lot of Knicks fans into Grizzlies and Nets fans”?
Seriously, I think if he didn’t ignore me and flirt with my wife, I’d probably start to say something reasonable about hanging on to Kids and building intelligently without trading picks, but after a sentence or two I’d devolve into ramblings about him and Dolan screwing up my love for the game. Eventually I think he’d call the cops as my cursing increased. He’s just garbage, and so is the ownership. They have one more year, and if I don’t feel better about the team, I’m going to pull a CPCP and decide on a new NBA team (or none at all).
3. After the New York Mets blew a seven game to the Phillies, should the Mets really fire Willie Randolph?
Hell yeah. I even wrote an article about it. The team was flat for an entire month. At some point the manager is responsible for the lack of emotion and concern of his players. You can read the column for more depth, but essentially, Willie is Joe Torre reincarnated, but doesn’t have the veteran team of performers that Torre has. He sits on his hands too much and has no fire. That and his bullpen and lineup management skills are abominable. I just don’t think he’s a good coach. Do you think Lou Pinella, Tony LaRussa, Jim Leyland, or even Joe Girardi would have let the team play that flat for that long without a tirade?
4. Fact or Fiction: Eli Manning will become a Pro-Bowl QB one day?
Can I cop out and say Faction? Seriously, I think he can but I don’t think he will unless he gets the right offensive coordinator. He’s shown through four games this year that he can throw and be a leader. He’s looked good. He just needs a decent team around him. Is he Peyton? No. Can he be in the best three QBs in the conference? Maybe .
How many QBs in the NFC are solidly better than him now? Favre for sure. Beyond that Romo is good, but how would he do if they switched places? McNabb is on his way out, Bulger and Brees have looked bad this year, and I think Hasselback is way overrated. I certainly wouldn’t put him far behind Leinart, Delhomme, and Kitna, and maybe even in front of them.
In short, he might not ever make the Pro Bowl, but I’ll take him, and he’s not even in the top five things I would improve about the Giants.
5. Recently, the users of ArmchairGM have been involved in a feud of first amendment rights. How does this compare to the Beast-False Prophet-Tyrone feud of July? How can ArmchairGM stay away from these "soap opras."?
Feuds are dumb and too many people get their panties in a twist over a website. Live and let live. Unless someone is a constant troll, or exceptionally offensive, leave them be. Don't like them, then ignore them. The feud in July was stupid too, as was the feud with Manny. Ultimately it was because people didn't just move on after some b.s.. Just move on.
Let me just add that it is legally impossible to infringe on first amendment rights on a website. The ONLY speech right covered in the First Amendment is the prohibition of GOVERNMENT limits on speech. Private companies, websites, tv channels, and so on can do whatever the hell they want, and its Constitutional.
The Site can avoid such crap in the future if people just ignore trollish behavior and name calling and just move on. If you don't give the bully an audience, they stop being a bully. When certain of the troll-like posters post normal things, *cough* TB *cough* they are some of the best writers of the site. SO its good to discourage childishness by not acknowledging it.
