Matt Stairs (Matthew Wade Stairs) was born on February 27, 1968 in Fredericton, New Brunswick (Canada). He made his Major League debut on May 29, 1992 for the Montreal Expos. In 1996, his rookie year, he hit .277 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI. Stairs played for the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 14 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Matt Stairs's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1999, when he slugged 38 home runs and knocked in 102 runs. However, others believe that it was 1998, when he slugged 26 home runs, hit for a .294 average and knocked in 106 runs.
