[edit] Biography

Born on November 11, 1983 in Selma, California, Matt Garza (Matthew Scott Garza) played for the Minnesota Twins for his entire 1 year career. Garza broke into the bigs on August 11, 2006 with the Minnesota Twins, and put up a 5.76 ERA in 50 innings pitched in 2006, his rookie year.

[edit] Scouting Report

Garza is entering his first push year into the Major Leagues. His 2006 season showings with the Twins confirmed that he still had some work to do on certain mechanics that were being read too easily by major league hitting.

He began his 2007 season with Rochester, where he put up numbers that convinced the Minnesota Twins that their enthusiasm for him was well warranted. He will gradually work his way into a permanent role with Minnesota, probably beginning with the 2008 season.

Underscore: The Twins are big on Garza, and thus far he has met their expectations, even if he may not seem high radar to the fans at this point.

He should end up in the 3/4 slot long term behind two time Cy Young award winner Johan Santana, and last years rookie phenom, Francisco Liriano. Should he end up in the fourth slot, it is likely that Boof Bonser would end up in the third spot and be a very solid pitcher. All in all, it is likely that Garza will be a big impact on a young, but full of potental twins rotation.
