[edit] Biography

Marvin Benard (Marvin Larry Benard) was born on January 20, 1971 in Bluefields, Nicaragua. He made his Major League debut on September 5, 1995 for the San Francisco Giants. In 1996, his rookie year, he hit .248 with 5 home runs and 27 RBI. Benard played for the San Francisco Giants for his entire 9 year career.

Most people believe that Marvin Benard's best season was 1999, when he slugged 16 home runs, stole 27 bases, hit for a .290 average and knocked in 64 runs.

Benard was mentioned in the Mitchell Report, and is accused of being implicated in the BALCO scandal:

"After [Dusty] Baker learned of the allegations, he asked Benard if they were true. According to Baker, Benard admitted he had used steroids previously but said that he had stopped. Baker did not report Benard’s admission to anyone in Giants management or the Commissioner’s Office."
