Marty Marion (Martin Whiteford Marion) was born on December 1, 1917 in Richburg, South Carolina. He made his Major League debut on April 16, 1940 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1940, his rookie year, he hit .278 with 3 home runs and 46 RBI. Marion played for the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Marty Marion's best season was 1942, when he hit for a .276 average and knocked in 54 runs.
