[edit] BiographyAcquired Selected in the second round (12th overall) in the 2006 Ottawa Dispersal Draft. Howell was the fourth leading receiver on the Renegades in his first season Ottawa, making 25 receptions for 417 yards and three touchdowns. Howell caught two touchdown passes against Hamilton on Oct. 21. Began the season as a defensive back, starting at cornerback for six games with Winnipeg. In his first year on the defensive side of the ball, Howell had 17 tackles, five knockdowns and two special teams tackles. Moved to receiver for final two games of regular season, grabbing a pair of catches for 17 yards. Dressed for all 18 regular-season games as well as the 2003 West Semifinal for Winnipeg... Had 20 catches for 282 yards (14.1-yard average) and two touchdowns... Added nine kickoff returns for 238 yards. 26.4-yard average led the Bombers in that category... Had punt return for four yards and one defensive tackle to his totals... Took regular reps at defensive back during season when teammates were hurt. CJOB Radio named Howell its Offensive Player of the Game twice in 2003: once against the Eskimos (Winnipeg @ Edmonton, Oct. 17, 2003) and once against the Roughriders in the post-season (2003 West Division Semifinal, Winnipeg vs. Saskatchewan, Nov. 2, 2003). Appeared in all 18 regular-season games for Winnipeg as well as the 2002 West Semifinal and the 2002 West Championship... Was a starter for all of those games... Hauled in 38 passes for 415 yards (10.9 yards-per-catch average) and one touchdown... Also returned three punts for 20 yards. Appeared in all 18 of Winnipeg's regular-season games along with the 2001 East Championship and the 2001 Grey Cup... Started 10 regular-season games...Grabbed 19 receptions for 307 yards and one touchdown. Caught 25 passes on the season for 259 yards and one touchdown... Led Winnipeg in kickoff return average at 25.2 yards and busted one return 87 yards for a touchdown against the Toronto Argonauts (Winnipeg vs. Toronto, Sept. 9, 2000)... Tied CFL record for blocked kicks in a game with two against the Argos at SkyDome (Winnipeg @ Toronto, Aug. 10, 2000)... Returned one of those blocks 15 yards for a touchdown... Selected in the fourth round of the 2000 Canadian College Draft with 25th pick overall. College A dynamic athlete, Howell played his college football with the Texas Southern University Tigers. He not only caught passes for the Tigers but he also rushed the ball and returned punts and kickoffs. He also ran for the school's track-and-field squad, competing in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay... Other Attended high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute, where he played football for standout head coach Brad Purpur.
