Mark Price, and brother Brent, were the product of good development from their father, a well-known Enid, Oklahoma high school coach. Just six-feet even and 180 pounds, Mark Price had a lot of skeptics despite his impressive shooting skills and range.
Price starred at Georgia Tech, and led the ACC in scoring, ahead of Michael Jordan. Price was cat quick to gain openings on his lethal threes, and in getting into the lane. A sure passer, Price also developed a shooting release that got rid of the ball very quickly, which greatly minimized blocks.
Despite his college success, the NBA still had doubts. Originally selected by the Dallas Mavericks, he was dealt to Cleveland, where he could work with head coach Lenny Wilkins, the Hall Of Fame point guard.
Price surprised to become a 20 point/ 10 assists point guard for the contending Cavaliers. He was named All-NBA First Team, the first Cavalier ever to rank that high. Deadly from three-point range and from the free point line, Price still ranks today as one the greatest pure shooters in the history of the game.
