Marion Shirley (Marion V. Shirley) was born on April 17, 1922 in Denver, Colorado. After going to high school at Classen (Oklahoma City, OK), Shirley attended Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma State University. Shirley made his professional debut in the AAFC in 1948 with the New York Yankees. He played for the New York Yankees for his entire 2 year career.
