[edit] Biography
Marco Andretti drives the #26 Andretti Green Racing car in the IndyCar Series. A third generation driver, he is the grandson of former World Champion Mario Andretti and the son of former CART champion Michael Andretti (who is also the part-owner of Andretti Green Racing).
In his rookie season of 2006, Marco surprised many with his performance in the Indianapolis 500. Taking the lead on lap 198 from his father, Marco was passed on the final straightaway on lap 200 by Sam Hornish Jr., finishing in second by .0635 seconds. Nonetheless, he won Rookie of the Year honors for the Indy 500 as well as for the IndyCar Series. Marco also notched his first career victory in 2006, winning at Infineon Raceway.
2007 was a significantly more difficult year for Marco. He failed to finish 10 of the 17 races on the schedule. In particular, he struggled the first half of the season on ovals, not finishing an oval race until Iowa. By the second half, his retirements became more the subject of bad luck, knocked out of the races at Mid-Ohio and Infineon by teammates (on the first lap at Mid-Ohio to boot). His best finishes were two second places in the attrition plagued Iowa and Michigan races.
