Manny Delcarmen has been a life long Red Sox fan, He was born in Boston and he attended West Roxbury High School (2000).
[edit] Pro career
In 2005 he showed flashes of brilliance in AA, Portland and AAA, Pawtucket. He even managed to hold his own in Boston when he allowed only 3 runs in 9 IP despite walking 7. A crowded Red Sox bullpen may limit his chances to pitch at the major league level in 2006, but he could have a bright future ahead of him. Control is the only thing standing in his way. 2007 has been a new beginning for Manny, he has harnessed his control and is throwing the ball with lots of power (fastball is consistently in the mid 90's). He is considered an important arm in the bullpen for the 2007 Red Sox, he is used mainly in the 6th and 7th innings to bridge the gap to Hideki Okijima and Jonathan Papelbon.

Tommy John surgery derailed his progress in 2003, but the young reliever is well on his way back. His fastball is as good as ever, sitting in the mid-90's and topping out at 97, but his curveball isn't as consistent as it was when he was a starter, pre-surgery. He has difficulty repeating his delivery which causes him to lose command of his pitches. He is only 24 and the Red Sox feel that he will develope into a very reliable option as a set-up man.
