MLB Pitcher Joe Kennedy Dies

Major league pitcher Joe Kennedy, 28,  passed away early this morning at his home in Florida.  No details are known at this point, except that Kennedy passed out in his home and was brought to a local hospital.  It is unknown whether he was dead on arrival or if he passed away at the hospital.

Kennedy broke into the big leagues in 2001 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and has since played for the Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks, and, most recently, the Toronto Blue Jays.  Kennedy had a career 43-61 record to go with a 4.79 ERA.

Kennedy was married with a 1-year-old son.

This is very tragic, seeing a man this young pass away with so much life ahead of him.  His family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.  More on this story as it develops.

SSreporters is right...this is a very sad story...Seems like there was another athlete lately that passed out and died or at least in the last year. No minus from me SSreporters....made your minus one disappear.

28, undergoes physicals every time that he changes clubs, and dies suddenly. While I'm sure that there will be an autopsy, this sounds like the steroids or ephedra cases that pop up from time to time. Guys 28 in good physical condition don't often keel over and die. It happens in high school, where there are fewer checks, but rarely in college and even more rarely in the pros.

Ephedra doesn't kill people. Only really, really stupid people with ephedra kill themselves. (but the same can be said for chlorine bleach, lawn mowers and lava lamps)

Kennedy's death is being reported as either a heart attack or aneurysm. The guy lost 20 pounds last offseason and was in training for a marathon in January. He was easily in the best shape of his life. To make a reference to drugs without any knowledge is irresponsible at best. So much for your credible sources, huh, Brian?

it is sad cuz he made his case with the bluejays lastyear and looked good in limited action. have u noticed that aneurysms are starting to become more of a trend with athletes ive read up on many athletes not all professionals dieing of a sudden burst vessel. RIP

I have a son with HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY or what is confused as an enlarged heart in athletes, which it is not. This sometimes fatal congetial condition often goes unnoticed/undected because it is very hard to detect (except with an echocardiogram) until after the person drops over and dies for no appairent reason. A healthy 28 year old professonal athlete in the best shape of his life does not just die. It is my opinion an underlying heart condition, HCM.
