Ryne Sandberg (Ryne Dee Sandberg) was born on September 18, 1959 in Spokane, Washington. He made his Major League debut on September 2, 1981 for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 1982, his rookie year, he hit .271 with 7 home runs and 54 RBI. Sandberg played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 16 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Ryne Sandberg's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1990, when he slugged 40 home runs, stole 25 bases, hit for a .306 average and knocked in 100 runs. However, others believe that it was 1985, when he slugged 26 home runs, stole 54 bases, hit for a .305 average and knocked in 83 runs.
