Lionel Taylor (Lionel Thomas Taylor) was born on August 15, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri. After going to high school at Buffalo (Accoville, WV), Taylor attended New Mexico Highlands University. Taylor made his professional debut in the NFL in 1959 with the Chicago Bears. He played in the NFL for 1 year, playing for the Chicago Bears the entire time. Taylor also played in the AFL for 9 years, playing for the Denver Broncos and Houston Oilers over the course of his 9 year AFL career.

Most people believe that 1960 was Lionel Taylor's best year, as he hauled in 92 receptions, had 1235 receiving yards and caught 12 TD passes.
