[edit] Biography

Lenny Dykstra (Leonard Kyle Dykstra) was born on February 10, 1963 in Santa Ana, California. He made his Major League debut on May 3, 1985 for the New York Mets. In 1985, his rookie year, he hit .254 with 1 home run and 19 RBI. Dykstra played for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 12 year career.

Most people believe that Lenny Dykstra's best season was 1993, when he slugged 19 home runs, stole 37 bases, hit for a .305 average and knocked in 66 runs.

Since retiring, Dykstra has opened a chain of quick lube companies and is a notable options trader.

Dykstra was also prominently featured in baseball's Mitchell Report. The report stated that, starting in 1990, "Dykstra was the subject of several articles speculating about his possible use of steroids." These stories continued to appear in 1991 and during Dykstra's breakout 1993 campaign. Although confronted by then-Phillies GM Lee Thomas, Dykstra denied using any performance-enhancing drugs.

It was during Dykstra's time with the Mets that he met clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski. Dykstra allegedly admitted to Radomski that he used steroids in 1989. After the Phillies lost the 1993 World Series, Radomski claims to have provided Dykstra with several types of steroids, including Deca-Durabolin, Dianabol, and testosterone.

According to the Mitchell Report, the Commissioner's Office has aware that Dykstra had used steroids throughout his career since 2000. In 2000, several high-ranking baseball officials met with Dykstra and his doctor. These three officials were senior VP for security Kevin Hallinan, Hallinan's deputy Martin Maguire, and then-executive VP for baseball operations Sandy Alderson. According to Hallinan, Dykstra admitted steroids and also said that using these steroids made lifting weights during the season unnecessary. Dykstra refused to meet with investigators for the Mitchell Report.
