Lee Westwood

At age 13, young Lee Westwood learned to play golf with a set of clubs bought for him by his grandparents. Westwood was always a talented athlete, as he played rugby, cricket, and football (soccer) while in school. Westwood took to golf. He was named junior champion of Nottinghamshire, and in 1993 won the British Youth Championship and turned pro.
In 1996, Westwood won his first tournament, then followed that with at least won victory in every season through 2000. Westwood added a couple wins in 2003, and two more in 2007. Westwood had an excellent finish to the 2007 season, finishing in the top ten in each of the last five events.
Westwood appeared on the European Ryder Cup team in 1997, 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2006 (European team won each of those years except 1999).
