[edit] Biography

Born on May 2, 1886 in Belleville, Kansas, Larry Cheney (Laurence Russell Cheney) played for the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Superbas, Brooklyn Robins, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Braves over the course of his 9 year career. Cheney broke into the bigs on September 9, 1911 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 2.85 ERA in 303.1 innings pitched in 1912, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Larry Cheney's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1913, when he posted a 2.57 ERA, won 21 games, notched 11 saves and struck out 136 batters. However, others believe that it was 1916, when he posted a 1.92 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 166 batters.
