Kurt Warner is an Enigma

by Suckatsports

Kurt Warner has a list of accolades to his name that even some Hall of Famers can't claim. He's got his championship, he's got an MVP, and he's got almost another ring. He was at the helm of one of the most prolific and exciting NFL offenses to date (Patriots have since taken that claim), and he is a Jesus Freak that was bagging groceries at one point. His story couldn't possibly come more full circle.

Out of all the stats from the San Francisco loss, Warner threw for a career high 484 yards. Through all those teams in St. Louis, it was his role as a de facto backup that led him to throw for nearly 500 yards. He even threw for an improbable Hail Mary that Larry Fitzgerald came down with in the end zone as time ran out in the first half. That never works.

You know what else never works? Standing in the endzone for 5 seconds and not expecting to get sacked. After continually bringing his team back, Kurt Warner stood like a statue 5 yards deep in the endzone during the eventual closing moments of overtime. He of course got sacked, fumbled the ball, and it was recovered by the 49ers - game.

In all his years as a QB, did the clock in his head stop? Did he feel it was appropriate for a nearly 7 step drop from the two? It's such a confusing and befuddling situation, that it can only have happened to a guy that should indeed be bagging groceries, and not playing in the NFL. Your primary receivers on a three step drop are covered, you're half way into the endzone, and the OT is sudden death, what neurons have to fire to throw the ball away? I think we all watched in amazement as he looked completely clueless, a surprising situation for a would be veteran.

It would be prefereable if people knew what the game was like as much as what the stats say... Warner is a stats machine - Attempts, Completions, yards, TDs, Ints, sacks, fumbles - these are his M.O. - it's what he does, BUT...

Listen to me and hear me well. Don't blame Warner. Don't even blame the coaches (this time) Anyone who has watched at least 2 Cardinal games over the last 5-20 years can tell you EXACTLY what happened - it was "a typical Cardinals game".

Before Rackers even tried the penalized field goal I told Wifey (who so desparately wants to be a Cardinals fan but they keep kicking her in the ovaries with games like these) - I said: "You know he's gonna make it and there will be a penalty and they'll make him re-kick it and he'll miss the second one, right?" - complete truth, I really said it. And it's not a knock on Rackers, whom I think is awesome. It's 100 because I've seen enough Cards games to know better than to hope.

They should have never ever been in that situation. Hell, if not for the pre-half Hail Mary - the game was only close because the football gods are funny like that. Every single possible problem this franchise has or ever will have is solely contributable to the Ownership. Blame the Bidwells. It's ALL their fault.

I'd be blaming the defense for allowing the 49ers of all teams to get 31 offensive points.

Who refuses to pay for better defensive players and coaches? The Bidwells. They put this gauze bandage and masking tape of a team together - Let them take the blame.

Puhleeeze - Like you guys aren't out there trying to hit worse... I can name a few thousand guys that would tap that with less than a two drink minimum. Ever consider that maybe she's "got skills"? Yes, I'm talking about Brenda AND Alice. Not even at the same time; that's a whole 'nuther conversation!

Then again - I would have at least 7 kids if I fumbled in the sack like Kurt does...

My explanation for Kurt Warner: Faustian tragedy. He signed his soul to Satan then Green got hurt and he took over for a team of destiny (Vermiel's destiny of winning a well deserved Super Bowl), and that got him enough stats to continue playing pro-football even after satan took back his gift.

Remember he's a glorified journeyman now. He taught Eli everything he knew, except how to contact Satan. And he's doing the same for Leinart! He is spectacularly over-rated and for some un-explainable reason I can't f'ing stand him.

His career has contract with Satan written all over it.

And making fun of someone's wife is LOW! Maybe if the man had glasses he'd......play better football. <---- Spot the hypocrite!

Why was Rattay only in there for 1 play? Sorry, I didn't see the game. But, anyway, if it wasn't for Warner, the Cardinals would not have even come close to winning, but that doesn't matter 'cause they didn't win anyway.

Kurt Warner was fortunate to be in the situation he was with St. Louis. He was a sightly above average quarterback then, and he's probably right around average now. His latest fumble simply reinforces what everyone already knew: He takes sacks because he can't move, and he fumbles when even slightly touched. He's still a solid option, and can throw the ball extremely accurate when protected. But he's 36 and this is the end of the line for him. Unfortunately, at least for this season, the same could probably be said for the Arizona Cardinals.
