- New York Yankees slugger, Babe Ruth, hits his 120th career home run, good enough to give him the most career home runs at the time. He would hold the record until Hank Aaron hit his 715th in 1974

- Lefty Grove loses a game after seven consecutive wins to start the season as the Chicago White Sox beat the Philadelphia A's, 7-6 in 11 innings

- Boston Red Sox rookie pitcher, Bill Lefebvre hits a home run in his first major league at bat.

- Joe Nuxhull pitches two-thirds of an inning in relief for the Cincinnati Reds to become the youngest player to ever appear in a major league game. He was still 6 weeks shy of his 16th birthday.

- Rocky Colavito hits four home runs in one game, becoming the sixth player to accomplish the feat. His Cleveland Indians beat the Baltimore Orioles, 11-8.

- Sonny Siebert tosses a no-hitter, the only one of the '66 season as his Cleveland Indians beat the Washington Senators, 2-0.

- Hank Aaron hits his 649th homer, passing Willie Mays to move into second place on the all-time homeruns list. The shot was a grand slam, the 14th of his career, tying a National League record held by Gil Hodges

- Kevin Brown tosses a no-hitter for the Florida Marlins in a 9-0 win over the San Francisco Giants. He misses a perfect game when he hits Marvin Bernard in the 8th inning.

- Ichiro Suzuki takes the field for the Seattle Mariners and So Taguchi takes the field for the St. Louis Cardinals. It is the first major league game in which two Japanese born position players play.
- Marcus Thames, a rookie for the New York Yankees hits a home run off of Randy Johnson. It is the first pitch he sees in the major leagues making him just the 17th major league player to hit a homer on the first pitch he gets.

- Gotta Have It Collectibles bids $996,000 and wins an auction for the original document that sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees
