- Paavo Nurmi of Finland at the 1924 Paris Olympics earns two gold medals in a matter of hours in Athletics. First he wins the 1500 Meter race in a time of 3:56.6 then with only an hour rest in between he would capture gold in the 5000 Meter race with a time of 14:31.2, incredibly both times set new Olympic records.

- Philadelphia Phillies Hall-of-Famer Chuck Klein hit 4 home runs in a single game.

- Kenyan runner Yobes Ondieki became the first man to run 10,000 meters in less than 27 minutes.

- The United States defeat China to win the FIFA Women's World Cup. The USA won the match 5-4 through penalties after the match ended in a scoreless draw.

- Barry Bonds breaks his own record for intentional walks received in a season; amazingly, he broke the former full-season record of 68 set in 2002 before the All-Star break. After three intentional walks in a 3-1 San Francisco Giants win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, his total stood at 71. He would end the season with 120.
