  • Won CART Series title, tying with Dario Franchitti in points. Montoya took the title with 7 victories to Franchitti's 2.
  • Won at Long Beach, Nazareth, Rio de Janeiro, Cleveland, Mid-Ohio, Chicago, and Vancouver

  • Wins at Milwaukee, Michigan, and Gateway
  • Won Indianapolis 500

  • Finished 6th in World Drivers Championship
