[edit] Biography

Jose Canseco (Jose (Capas) Canseco) was born on July 2, 1964 in Havana, Cuba. He made his Major League debut on September 2, 1985 for the Oakland Athletics. In 1986, his rookie year, he hit .240 with 33 home runs and 117 RBI. Canseco played for the Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 17 year career.

Most people believe that Jose Canseco's best season was 1988, when he slugged 42 home runs, stole 40 bases, hit for a .307 average and knocked in 124 runs.

Canseco was also one of the players named in baseball's Mitchell Report. Canseco's name appears many times in the report, mainly due to the book he wrote on performance-enhancing drug use in baseball. However, he is also mentioned in the Mitchell Report under the "Alleged Internet Purchase" section. An article published by Sports Illustrated on March 6, 2006 noted that Canseco's name was on the customer list of Applied Pharmacy Services that was seized by the federal government. According to the article, Canseco purchased HGH, testosterone, stanozolol, and HCG, as well as 340 syringes from an now out-of-business Florida anti-aging clinic.

In the SI article Canseco's lawyer, Robert Saunooke, said that he did not believe that Canseco was a customer of the aformentioned pharmacy service, mainly because Saunooke was not aware of his client purchasing steroids or HGH online. However, when talking with investigators for the Mitchell Report, Saunooke did admit that his client bought HGH over the internet. Saunooke did mention that he was unsure of when Canseco purchased HGH or steroids from any online sources.
