The Braves beat the Dodgers, 8-6. That wasn't what made Braves fans happy last night. Chipper Jones surpassed Dale Murphy's record for the all time home hitter in club history. He hit two solo home runs, hitting numbers 371 and 372. He had only hit one home run since coming back one month from the disabled list. It was exaclty seven years ago when he last hit 2 home runs, 1 from each side of the plate.
"It's extra special," Jones said when asked what it meant to set the record with two meaningful homers. "It wasn't exactly the pitchers' duel that we were expecting. ... You just knew when it came down to the bullpens it was going to come down to one swing of the bat."
Jones is doing amazing ever since he came off the disabled list. He has hit .390 (30-77), but he only hit one home run before making history. The first home run came off Dodgers' reliever, Eric Stults in the sixth inning. Chin-hui Tsao's first pitch came to Chipper Jones in the eighth inning over the right-center-field wall. Little did Tsao know that he gave Chipper Jones something to remember: a night that put Chipper Jones on top of everyone who have played for the Atlanta Braves in home runs.
Congratulations to Chipper Jones!
