Born on March 29, 1915 in Bayonne, New Jersey, Johnny Gorsica (John Joseph Perry Gorsica) played for the Detroit Tigers for his entire 7 year career. Gorsica broke into the bigs on April 22, 1940 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.33 ERA in 160 innings pitched in 1940, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Johnny Gorsica's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1941, when he posted a 4.47 ERA and struck out 59 batters. However, others believe that it was 1943, when he posted a 3.36 ERA.
