John Riggins (Robert Riggins) was born on August 4, 1949 in Centralia, Kansas. After going to high school at Centralia (KS), Riggins attended the University of Kansas. Riggins made his professional debut in the NFL in 1971 with the New York Jets. He played for the Washington Redskins and New York Jets over the course of his 14 year career.

Most people believe that 1983 was John Riggins's best year, as he ran for 1347 yards and ran in 24 TDs.

He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992.
