John Helwig (John Francis Helwig) was born on December 5, 1927 in Los Angeles, California. After going to high school at Mount Carmel (Los Angeles, CA), Helwig attended the University of Notre Dame. Helwig made his professional debut in the NFL in 1953 with the Chicago Bears. He played for the Chicago Bears for his entire 4 year career.
Most people believe that 1954 was John Helwig's best year, as he picked off 3 passes.
