Born on November 6, 1953 in New York, New York, John Candelaria (John Robert Candelaria) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, California Angels, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Montreal Expos, Toronto Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers over the course of his 19 year career. Candelaria broke into the bigs on June 8, 1975 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.76 ERA in 120.2 innings pitched in 1975, his rookie year.

Most people believe that John Candelaria's best season was 1977, when he posted a 2.34 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 133 batters.
