Joe Cardwell (Joseph Thomas Cardwell) was born on January 31, 1912 in Montgomery, Alabama. After going to high school at Great Bridge (Chesapeake, VA), Cardwell attended Duke University. Cardwell made his professional debut in the NFL in 1937 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for his entire 2 year career.
