Joe Burten (Joe Bernstein) was born on October 6, 1893. Burten attended Louisiana State University. Burten made his professional debut in the APFA in 1921 with the New York Giants. He played in the APFA for 1 year, playing for the New York Giants the entire time. Burten also played in the NFL for 3 years, playing for the Rock Island Independents the entire time.
