Born on October 4, 1960 in Kirkwood, Missouri, Joe Boever (Joseph Martin Boever) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 12 year career. Boever broke into the bigs on July 19, 1985 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.94 ERA in 82.1 innings pitched in 1989, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Joe Boever's best season was 1989, when he posted a 3.94 ERA, notched 21 saves and struck out 68 batters.
