Jim Murphy (James Thomas Murphy) was born on November 3, 1904 in Russell, Minnesota. After going to high school at Russell (MN), Murphy attended the University of St. Thomas. Murphy made his professional debut in the NFL in 1926 with the Racine Tornadoes. He played for the Chicago Cardinals and Racine Tornadoes over the course of his 2 year career.
