Born on November 5, 1862 in Napa County, California, Jim McElroy (James D. McElroy) played for the Wilmington Quicksteps and Philadelphia Quakers over the course of his 1 year career. McElroy broke into the bigs on May 26, 1884 with the Wilmington Quicksteps, and put up a 5.12 ERA in 116 innings pitched in 1884, his rookie year.
