[edit] Biography

Born on October 23, 1931 in Southgate, Kentucky, Jim Bunning (James Paul David Bunning) played for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers over the course of his 17 year career. Bunning broke into the bigs on July 20, 1955 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 6.35 ERA in 51 innings pitched in 1955, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Jim Bunning's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1966, when he posted a 2.41 ERA, won 19 games and struck out 252 batters. However, others believe that it was 1965, when he posted a 2.60 ERA, won 19 games and struck out 268 batters.
