Jets QB Options

16

by user MetsJetsDevils

Obviously the Jets have a lot of question marks with Chad Pennington and their future at the QB position. With so many QBs available through free agency and the draft, the Jets have alot of options. I personally think a 2nd day pick to the Skins for Patrick Ramsey makes the most sense. Frees the team to use their draft picks on other positions. That being said, who do people think is the Jets future at QB besides Pennington.

In no particular order:

  • Matt Leinart
  • Vince Young
  • Jay Cutler
  • Brodie Croyle
  • Omar Jacobs
  • Brian Griese
  • Jon Kitna
  • Patrick Ramsey
  • Billy Volek
  • Josh McCown.

I would probably lean toward Leinart, and just take the growing pains the first few years

Yeah, I would draft a QB rather than overpay in a trade or salary for Ramsey, Griese.

Drafting a QB is silly. They need so many players. Just go out and grab a decent backup out of the free agent pool. You're not winning with Leinart/Ward/Cutler in the early going, so it isn't like you are giving much up if Pennington is still battered. And a year from now, there's little reason to think that Pennington won't be at least servicable.

There are no question marks; he got injured, he had surgery, and now he's their starting QB. The only question mark is whether Nugent will choke in Super Bowl XLI.

Rob, while I appreciate your optomism, He has now had major shoulder surgery 2 years in a row and was never blessed with an above avergae throwing arm to begin with. it would be foolish to go into the season without some type of plan for what to do if Chad can't come back. That being said, who above do you think would make the most sense for the Jets? Or more genrally would you rather trade or sign someone like Griese or Ramsey or draft someone like Cutler or Jacobs?

The shoulder is a concern, but it's not a big enough one to require having two overpaid QBs on a team with deficiencies all around. A guy like Volek or Kitna or even Frerotte could be a stop-gap until such time that Pennington returns. If Pennington can't play, then and only then do you look for a replacement.

Pean, i didnt say there were NO question marks, i said there's a question mark whether Nugent will choke in Super Bowl XLI. I dont think he's a clutch kicker, but hopefully we'll be blowing out the Saints in that game. MetsJetsDevils, I feel sorry for you, i'd imagine you are a Knicks fan as well but are too embarrased to put that in your user name :) hehe. But to answer your question, I think we should get Ramsey.

I say Kitna. Pennington will be good if he can stay healthy. If not, Kitna will be a servicable QB. Too many other needs to worry about QB especially since they do have Pennington. I say give him one more year to prove he can be healthy. If he fails again, its not like it will be a lost season anyway.

The packers vikings et al are interested in brees, the jets could be.

Hell, I don't like him, but they could trade for culpepper, rumors say they are trying to get rid of john abraham. Kerry Collins is a moron, but he might be available soon.

I know it is never going to happen but they should draft a qb in the 4th round and then trade for Doug Flutie, considering he is still better than half of the qb's in the NFL.

The Jets really need to revamp their offensive line. One of the reasons the Jets made it as deep as they did a couple years ago was because they were able to protect Pennington. They should draft a stud left tackle who caould anchor the line for years. Look at guys like Orlando Pace, he's allowed QB after QB have time to start slinging the ball downfield. Get a solid offensive line and any quarterback will be successful. That being said, the Jets probably try and take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round, and maybe try and go after Kitna. With their 1st rounder the Jets should take D'Brickshaw Ferguson.
