Jets Fill Void at Running Back, Acquire Jones from the Bears

According to nfl.com, the Jets have made a trade with the Bears, acquiring Thomas Jones and the 63rd pick in the upcoming draft, in exchange for the 37th pick. The trade is expected to be approved by the league on Tuesday.

With the move, the Jets fill the sorely needed void at top running back left by Curtis Martin, while the Bears are able to elevate Cedric Benson to starter.

Did the Bears completly forget that they won the NFC last year. THey dont need to revamp their team.

Well, they did get their big 'ol chicago butts handed to them in the Super Bowl, so, clearly they have /some/ work to do... Although it really needs to happen under center.

I think they just want to make Benson the main man. For their sakes, I hope he's ready. (If I was them, I'd sign Corey Dillon, and fast.)

Benson gets paid more money than Jones so he is the starter. Simple as that.

Jones has been very vocal about being traded this offseason. I don't think Benson and Peterson will be much of a drop-off. What scares me is if they are willing to accomidate Jones, does this mean that Briggs will soon be on his way out too?

Relax Pup... guys aren't "begging" to get out... Briggs is pissed because of the franchise tag. Well, guess what Lance? Your PLAYERS UNION negotiated the rules of the franchise tag so guys "afflicted" with it would get paid. So shut up.

Secondly, I've never been a big fan of Thomas Jones, from the point he was a complete bust for the Cardinals. If he wanted out, fine... he knew he was losing his job.

I think this is an awful trade given the fact that guys are getting 5 year deals at age 28 or 30 or whatever... bad bad bad.

Fair enough I get what your saying Joe. It just seems strange to me to see a team that went 13-3 and dominated their conference last season, have trouble holding onto their players. Makes me wonder how bad their front office really is.

What kills me is the fact that da Bears threw in their own 2nd round pick with Jones. I think the Jets knew they had da Bears over a barrel and squeezed them for as high a pick they could get.

this team....HISTORICALLY is cheap.it's a known fact, and i am a bears fan.the same thing happened after the 85 season when alot of guys wanted to get paid the bears front office traded them away.i loved thomas jones he "left it on the field" as they say and it was a steal for the Jets.but the bigger picture is that they have a guy (benson) who got PAID $$$ as a 4th overall pick and they are going to make him the #1 guy.i liked the change of pace or different "looks" the bears gave with jones and benson and even peterson. but i guess when you have something that others want you make the move.the jets lost out on a bunch of RB's who signed over the weekend and this was probably their next option.

i know this wouldn't happen but i can dream can't I? The Bears should have sent Briggs and Jones to the Jets for the #37 pick possibly another pick and Jonathan Vilma. swap LBs and give the jets the RB they need.

And If they move Briggs it better be for a HELL of alot more than a 2nd round pick.Briggs to oakland for Moss and the raiders #1 pick

No way. Briggs is not worth Moss AND the First overall pick. They got him for Napoleon Harris (at the time a decent starter) and a top ten pick. They want at least to gain a first rounder. Maybe straight up with a late day two pick to oakland. No way they send the first rounder to Chicago without getting a lot in return

i think i would rather have jones over the other rb's especially at the price of a few draft spots
