[edit] Biography

Jay Gibbons (Jay Jonathan Gibbons) was born on March 2, 1977 in Rochester, Michigan. He made his Major League debut on April 6, 2001 for the Baltimore Orioles. In 2001, his rookie year, he hit .236 with 15 home runs and 36 RBI. Gibbons played for the Baltimore Orioles for his entire 6 year career.

Most people believe that Jay Gibbons's best season was 2003, when he slugged 23 home runs, hit for a .277 average and knocked in 100 runs.

Gibbons was also one of the players named in baseball's Mitchell Report. According to a Sports Illustrated article published on September 9, 2007, Gibbons was a customer of Signature Pharmacy, which provided steroids and HGH to MLB players. The article claims that between 2003 and 2005, Gibbons received 6 shipments of HGH, as well as two shipments of both testosterone and HGC. Gibbons was prescribed these performance-enhancing drugs by the South Beach Rejuvenation Center in Miami, Florida.

On September 18, 2007, Gibbons met with investigators for the Commissioner's Office to talk about the allegations made in the article. On December 6, 2007, Gibbons was suspended 15 days by the Commissioner's Office for a non-analytical violation of the joint drug program. Gibbons said afterward that he was sorry that he took performance-enhancing drugs, and that he had "no excuses and bear sole responsibility for my actions."
