Jay Fiedler (Jay Brian Fiedler) was born on December 29, 1971 in Oceanside, New York. After going to high school at Oceanside (NY), Fiedler attended Dartmouth College. Fiedler made his professional debut in the NFL in 1998 with the Minnesota Vikings. He played for the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings over the course of his 8 year career.
By NFL standards, his physical tools were unspectacular but he developed a reputation as an accurate passer and good game manager with decent scrambling ability. His best season came in 2001, when he passed for 20 touchdowns and 3,290 yards as the Dolphins won their second straight AFC East Division championship. Fielder played several more years with Miami but was one of the casualties, along with head coach Dave Wannstedt and others, of the team's disastrous 4-12 season in 2004.
Fiedler played his final NFL season as a backup with the New York Jets in 2005.
