Born on April 1, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri, Jake Thies (Vernon Arthur Thies) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for his entire 2 year career. Thies broke into the bigs on April 24, 1954 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 3.87 ERA in 130.1 innings pitched in 1954, his rookie year.
