J.R. Phillips (Charles Gene Phillips) was born on April 29, 1970 in West Covina, California. He made his Major League debut on September 3, 1993 for the San Francisco Giants. In 1995, his rookie year, he hit .195 with 9 home runs and 28 RBI. Phillips played for the San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies over the course of his 7 year career.
